Rod Hood Football Camp

Columbus, Georgia native Rod Hood graduated from Carver High School in 1999. With his high school football career marred by injuries, he received no scholarship offers from Division I programs. Eventually, he turned down Division I-AA offers to walk on as a wide receiver at Auburn. He was later moved to the cornerback position and earned a scholarship as a sophomore.

A coaching change and a switch in position to safety tainted his college career. He was not invited to the NFL combine or any all-star games and went undrafted. Believing in his ability, he tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles and became one of six rookie free-agents to make the roster in 2003. He proved to be a valuable commodity on defense in his rookie season. He was also a solid contributor on special teams. He played in 14 games during his rookie year, a rare accomplishment for an undrafted rookie in the NFL. His second year included many more accomplishments as he moved to the team’s third defensive back. He played regularly, covering some of the top receivers in the game (i.e. Randy Moss, Torey Holt). He is now known as a “shut-down cornerback”. The President of the Philadelphia Eagles has said of him: “Hood would be a starter on most teams in the NFL.”

Rod is committed to the community. He recognizes the importance of giving back and desires to do so, in part, through this camp. The Rod Hood Football Camp will be dedicated to teaching the techniques of football while emphasizing the values of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. The coaches will provide hands-on training in all aspects of the game including individual and positional. Each participant is expected to grow as a player, as well as a person, and have a great time doing it!
